Leeds Lights Up!

Light Night Leeds, Friday October 7th!

October. The final, violent flourish of summer sun has come and gone. The days are shortening; the nights are drawing in.

But as the autumn gales blow and the afternoons darken, here in Leeds we’re switching on the lights, illuminating the city with a mesmeric night of spectacle as musicians, actors, artists and poets bring brightness to the avenues and alleyways, the theatres and hallways across town. Yes, it’s Light Night again in Leeds.

This Friday, over 40 venues across the city play host to dozens of events: mead and music on Millennium Square; films on the giant screen inside the Town Hall; computer games played on the walls of the Civic Hall and the Dark Arches…

The charming treasure chest that is Leeds Library on Commercial Street will be opening its doors, to be transformed into a dazzling real-life storybook of its own.

Look out across Leeds from the eighteenth floor of the West Riding House, listening to music and joining in the conversations as Leeds Summat gathers to bring people together, sharing their ideas, their hopes, their dreams.

And over at the Playhouse meanwhile, enjoy the fun with some music and a drink. Watch the entire city come to light.

I can’t wait. And if I were you, I’d get myself along there this Friday too! Check out the full line-up here.

So what are you looking forward to? Are you taking part? What do you recommend? We’re waiting to hear…

  1. I’m taking part 🙂

The Leeds Steampunk Semaphore Office is item #54 on the programme; we also have a blog (lsso.wordpress.com) and use the #lsso hashtag on twitter.

We also need volunteers to help out on the night! If you’re at a loose end and want to be involved in a light night project then please come and talk to us on Victoria Gardens – we’ll be setting up from 5pm on Friday. All you need is the ability to talk to people and flip a toggle switch. Do please get in touch if you would like to get involved. There’ll be flyers dotted about the place, too. And people can get LSSO badges, and everybody loves badges.
