Special behind the scenes tour: featuring Janet Cardiff @OperaNorth

24-Cardiff_Motet_2001

Our friends at Opera North have really come up with the goodies this time! They are offering friends of The Culture Vulture (that’s you) a special behind the scenes tour of The Grand Theatre and to experience one of the most acclaimed sound installations currently touring internationally. In Leeds for the first time, Forty Part Motet by Janet Cardiff is a sublime and transformative work. Forty separately recorded voices sing one of the most beautiful works of Renaissance music, by Thomas Tallis. The voices are played back through forty speakers spaced around the room. The effect of this apparently simple arrangement is an extraordinary and intimate one as you become the listener secreted in the heart of the choir.

You don’t have to be an opera buff to get a kick out of this one, it is seriously amazing! So if you wish to join the private party, and also if you wish you can help us celebrate our birthday afterwards (more details to be confirmed!) then click here to rsvp. We need a minimum twelve people, we don’t think that will be a problem.

18th February – 6pm start Grand Theatre. Free tour (RSVP essential)
