Win Tickets To Salt Song at Hyde Park Cinema

Fish & Chips for Tea?

Don’t let the gulls steal your chips! This week at Leeds’ oldest cinema – the lovely Hyde Park Picture House – a flock of storytellers, poets, forgetful mermaids, musicians, fortune tellers, candy floss makers, a bear and a lobster…will be making an appearance for Salt Song to conjure up the sensations of the sea.

It’s an epic adventure, an odyssey if you will, following a woman on a journey to forget her past.

But forget the past for a minute. The fortune teller for Salt Song predicts that your future might involve some good luck…perhaps in the form of a limited edition Salt Song chip fork, that you can carry on your key ring (or round your neck) for those moments when you need it. For chip emergencies? Well yes.

Salt Song is a live cinematic performance by Andy Wood, Dave Kane, Rommi Smith and the Institute for Crazy Dancing, who were invited to look through Imove’s archive as a starting point for the project. It prompted them to think about the way we remember things, and how we edit our own memories, how they change over time and who fills in the gaps….And they persuaded some brilliant Leeds musicians to come and be part of their performance mixing original film, music and poetry together – musicians like Matthew Bourne, Simon Beddoe, Oliver Dover…alongside vocal trio Royst from Norway.

Salt Song promises to evoke memories of the sea: the waves and sky; the sounds drifting over from people on the pier, the carnivalesque mix of wurlitzer music, arcade games, food cooking and gulls calling…..

For a chance to win a ticket to see Salt Song at Hyde Park Picture House on 5/6 September, and your own chip fork, designed by Lee Goater and made by the superb folks at Duke Studios (#motherfrickinlaser) tell us what you most strongly associate with the sea and why you NEED, yes NEED a special emergency chip fork.

Deadline: 4 September 2012
