Big Ballet … For Anybody That Ever Wanted to Pirouette

ballet

Big Ballet (working title) is a new documentary series being produced by Rare Day for Channel 4. It will bring together a troupe of ballet dancers who don’t have conventional ballet dancer’s bodies but have a passion to don ballet shoes, knuckle down to some intensive training and take part in a performance of their lifetime. Coaching them will be two inspirational teachers: a former prima ballerina and an ex-principal dancer of major ballet companies.

We want to challenge the idea that only super skinny & tiny dancers can perform classical ballet and prove that weight, size and shape really don’t determine gracefulness and the ability to convey emotion through dance.

We’re looking for men and women who feel that their dancing ambitions have been affected by their size and weight and want that second chance to take to the stage and show the world what deep down they always knew they could be.

Auditions are taking place over the weekend of 8th and 9th June 2013 (TBC). You do not need to have anything prepared, but will be taught a routine and then be asked to perform it back to our industry experts.

Chosen applicants will then train with our team over a period of 4/5 months. They will be asked to commit to at least two weekday evenings and part of a weekend day for training; all will take place at a location in central Leeds.
