The full line up for next weekend’s Long Division festival in Wakefield is pretty impressive:

The festival will take place at various venues across the city centre from June 7-9 including The Hepworth, pubs, clubs and even a disused library.
A compilation album has also been released to coincide with the festival. Division One is available now and includes tracks from Jeffrey Lewis as well as This Is The Kit, The Sunbeams, Middleman, The Coopers, The State Of Georgia, Too Many T’s, Mark Wynn, O Messy Life, Imp, Crowds, Boxing Klub, jonnythefirth, The Exhibition, The Do’s, Thomas Wilby Gang, jamiesaysmile and Jasmine Kennedy.
It is available through Long Division’s Bandcamp at http://rhubarbbomb.bandcamp.com/ with listeners donating to The Ben Manning Music Foundation in return for the album.
Dean Freeman, organiser of the festival arranged the compilation album, said:
The thing about organising a festival is that you pick all these bands you love. And sometimes you forget other people – the people you are actually wanting to come along – aren’t as well acquainted with this great bands as you are, as the promoter.
So we thought a compilation would be a great way for people to whet their appetites for the big day, and perhaps also discover some amazing new bands that exist a little further down the bill. The Ben Manning Music Foundation do some great work in the city, so it’s a pleasure to have teamed up with them for this album.
Also performing on the day will be award winning comedians Josie Long & Robin Ince who will be recording their podcast live at the Wakefield Theatre Royal.

DJ Andy Kershaw and internationally acclaimed poet Simon Armitage make up the alternative entertainment at this year’s Long Division Festival.
The festival fringe takes place on Sunday June 9, the day after The Fall headline in the city. The festival fringe is a day of alternative entertainment with talks, spoken word and alternative performances.
DJ Andy Kershaw will be talking on the day about his personal story, depicted in his new book No Off Switch. Talking about his time in radio, as a foreign correspondent and the issues within his personal life this appearance promises to be enthralling and furiously funny.
Critically acclaimed poet Simon Armitage will also make an appearance on the day, performing a reading encompassing a range of his previous works. He will also perform with his band The Scaremongers.
Both events take place at the Wakefield Theatre Royal with half price tickets available for under 18s.
There will also be free events throughout the festival. After performing on the Saturday singer and comic book artist Jeffrey Lewis will be talking us through his sketchbooks while Guardian journalist Dave Simpson will read from his books The Fallen and The Last Champions.
Other events on the Sunday include a pop up cinema, family events at The Hepworth, the Ossett Ukulele Philharmonic, a Unity Hall tour and sessions discussing the future of Wakefield music and independent record shops.

I am really proud of this year’s Fringe Festival. It is something we have wanted to get going since the first year. It’s great because our interests go way beyond music, but getting things to tie in with the main Saturday has been very satisfying. The point of the Sunday is to engage with people on a more personal level by thinking up unique ideas.
