Halloween in Holbeck – The Midnight Feast!

PlagueDoctor

I see dead people! . . . well, actually I see one dead ranting poet, a wind-up doll that’s been magicked into movement (technically an inanimate object can’t be deceased I suppose?) a horde of evil toys, a dancer possessed by heaven knows what accompanied by a positively unearthly singer, and a stage full of trumpeters blasting mightily so loud they threaten to wake the dead . . . and there’s a strange smell of burning toffee . . . and that’s just rehearsals!

This coming Saturday Temple Works will host The Midnight Feast, its first collaborative event with local pub The Midnight Bell – in effect a taster for both. I spoke to Callum from The Bell who’s behind the event to find out what it’s all about:

With The Midnight Bell being in the middle of the historical setting of the urban village industrial quarter, I really wanted to hold an event that tips its hat to the ingenuity of the Victorian Industrialists and the culinary oddities that went hand in hand with the time. Originally we were planning a buffet with a whole host of these oddities, and while some may find their way onto the specials board, we couldn’t get many of the centre-pieces in time. This aside, and without wanting to spoil the surprise, we still have many tricks up our sleeves for this Saturday night!

The fun starts at 7pm. Numbers are strictly limited to a maximum of sixty. Gather at The Midnight Bell, Water Lane, Holbeck from 7 and be rounded up and escorted to Temple Works in small groups. Experience an unforgettable evening of spooky silliness conjured up by Temple Works’ resident maestro of mayhem and mystification, Mr Steve Hackenbush, and amazing food courtesy of The Midnight Bell (I know they hate being called a gastropub but the food is bloody fantastic!). It’s entirely free and there’s an after party in the Joiners’ Bar at Temple Works. Dressing up is not required but if you’re in the mood think steampunk/burlesque/Sherlock Holmes!
