A Night of Film and Fizz

On Saturday 21st July at 7.30pm, The Joshua Project are holding a film screening on the site of their soon-to-be refurbished community cinema, complete with champagne, canapes and entertainment, in order to inform the community all about the project and let people know how they can get involved.

Earlier this year, the children and young people charity, The Joshua Project were visited by a Channel 4 documentary crew and a young man supposedly struggling to find employment, with the guise of making a documentary series on the benefits of volunteering for the young unemployed. Well this young volunteer turned out to be none other than 24 year old poker player and millionaire Andrew Feldman, and the show of course, was actually Secret Millionaire.

Having spent the week assessing the needs of the community and where his money could be best spent, Andrew was overwhelmingly told by the community members that they felt they had nothing to do in their local area, or at least nothing they could afford. They made Andrew’s mind clear, that the money he was donating was to be spent on kickstarting the refurbishment of the cinema in which The Joshua Project operate from. Wanting the space to be transformed into a fully functioning community cinema to serve the local and wider district residents..

The Plaza Cinema operated from the site from 1914 to 1963, with many of the elderly residents still having fond memories of their local cinema. Reinstating this popular local landmark will be of great benefit to the community.

This Saturday, the 21st July, The Plaza is holding a different kind of event, a glitzy evening of film and fizz, opening its doors for a sociable evening of film, drinks, food and a chance to know what’s happening with the cinema’s progress, along with the various ways that people and businesses can get involved.

Doors will open at 7.30pm, with a free glass of champagne on arrival. There will be a licensed bar, canapes, entertainment and not to mention the screening of Martin Scorcese’s Academy Award winning feature Hugo. This film, along with being a wonderful joy, is in tandem with the ethos of the project. It respects, honours and appreciates the past, whilst looking forward to the youth of the future. It highlights the necessity of passion, artistry and creativity, and how the magical world of cinema can not only entertain, but enlighten, bewitch and enrich the lives of many.

The Joshua Project will let everyone know the various ways they can support the project, from simple membership, to donations, numerous advertising possibilities or even becoming a headline sponsor.

Tickets for the evening cost £15 and include entry, the film screening, a free glass of champagne and live entertainment. To buy your tickets, or for further information, visit The Joshua Project’s website call them on 0845 8052194 or email info@joshuaproject.org.uk.
