Forgive the cut and paste. We’re really excited by ‘Ways of Looking’ which opens in Bradford tomorrow, so wanted to tip you the wink you should be taking a butchers at all that is on offer in October. We’re also looking for a couple of bloggers who really want to get stuck in and enjoy the month long events, so do let us know if that is you…

Meanwhile there’s this to enjoy

As part of Ways of Looking, visitors to Bradford can take to the streets and get to know the city and its landmarks thanks to an interactive game, ‘The Visitor’, created by The Invisible Flock, an artist collective based in Yorkshire, who utilise installation, games, live performance and hidden technologies and create work for unusual locations. There are four interactive journeys, each offering glimpses of magic, intrigue and hidden histories; uncovering secret worlds and revealing the city in a whole new light.

Each journey uses a various technologies to guide people around the centre, from mobile phone calls and text messages and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Devices) objects, the same technology used in an Oyster Card, which activate various installations at venues which give clues to the next location.

The routes explore outdoor locations such as the Bradford Cathedral, a hidden 19th century hermetic temple and the stunning architecture of Little Germany; a busy commercial area of city centre which dates back to the 19th century and is the legacy of Jewish merchants who spent large sums of money constructing imposing warehouses for the storage. The game also includes indoor venues such as the 19th century Grade 1 listed Wool Exchange, The Midland Hotel, the National Media Museum and Impressions Gallery.

Visitors to Bradford during October can attend ‘Ways of Looking’, which runs from 1 to 30 October and keen culture vultures can play ‘The Visitor’ game for free throughout the festival, starting out at The Impressions Gallery on Century Square in the heart of the city.

iphone users can also download a free ‘Ways of Looking’ iphone application – the first app designed for a European photography festival – which is available from the iphone app store. The app will act as a guide and include information on the programme of events and exhibitions as well as biographies and film clips on the artists and photographers involved. It also allows users to create their own calendar of the exhibitions, plan a route through the city and share reviews and recommendations with other users.
