It’s hot, really hot.
Being hot usually means I can’t indulge in some my favourite activities such as wearing jumpers, enjoying hot drinks or lying under a thick duvet in the dark, wondering where it all went wrong.
Of course, it’s not just the physical implications of being hot I have to contend with, but the impact the heat has on my friends. My rallying call of “Let’s go to the cinema!” is now met with disdain and verbal, sometimes physical, abuse. “It’s too hot, Mark” They cry out, “Why would we want to waste this beautiful afternoon cramped together in the dark?” They are, of course, idiots and yet I always relent.
This weekend is different.
Once again, my cinematic siren song goes out but this time I silence their complaints with the promise of both a screening and sunshine. For one weekend, Leeds Docks will be transported into a beach-front paradise by those interactive-screening maestros at Sneaky Experience, with a waterfront double-bill featuring The life Aquatic with Steve Zissou on Saturday and Jaws on Sunday.
If the combination of beautiful weather (not guaranteed) and an open-air screening doesn’t grab your attention, then Sneaky Experience will also be offering its usual mix of entertainment based around the films being screened. Expect some stunning waterfront fashion to be on display (both films offer plenty to work with), live music, photo-booth opportunities, deckchairs, a licensed bar, food suitable for the theme and much more.
For those of you feeling particularly adventurous, there’s also the opportunity to rent a private hot-tub to enjoy the screening from (calm your beating hearts people of Leeds, my pale frame will not be on display). It’s certainly a unique way to watch a film, but that’s exactly what Sneaky Experience prides itself on.
