Home Tourist: a mini adventure

So we’ve been having fun these last few months playing with the idea of being Home Tourists. What does it mean? Quite simply it’s looking at where you live (anywhere in the world) with fresh eyes. How you define the exact geographic boundaries, activities and knowledge sharing is open to interpretation. You may focus on the view from your window, to the outer boundaries of a travel card…

So with that in mind we thought we’d see how far we could get if we tried to pull in your #Hometourist ideas, activities, events and suggestions together and build a live interactive place storing your tweets, pictures, map references, stories etc.

So please have a go this weekend by using Twitter either with your geotagging thing switched on if you have a smartphone or by putting in as much of a postcode as you can. Do keep the spacing.

A) To recommend or share something you’re enjoying:

“I’m at Oakwood Farmer’s Market (LS8 2HU / Geotag function switched on) There are live chickens and the biggest garlic bulbs ever! #HomeTourist”

B) Promote something you’ve got something on, an event, party, show, fete, whatever….(you’ll stand out if it’s engaging!)

“Mediterranean fairytales and fancy new beanbags too. Bring yourself and family @sabgallery this Saturday 2pm!  LS2 9JT/geotag ref  #hometourist

C) Ask for assistance:

“I’m going to be in Leeds (LS1) what’s great to do with kids Saturday? #Hometourist”

Please do help spread the word. Anywhere in the world. Reference this article if people need a bit more guidance. http://ow.ly/5kqAq Ask questions below or on twitter @culturevultures

AN UPDATE

The Hodge, Caius & Shaun and spent 24 hours doing hackery stuff in Lincoln with all the data you produced over the last 2 days. They created a map which is live and links to your tweets. Not only that they won ‘Best use of API’ which means something to clever code people!  Take a look at just what they accomplished in 24 hours…Is your tweet there?

We’ve got ideas of how we want to grow Home Tourist as a project but do let us know what your feedback is on the idea and your experience of being HomeTourists. If you’ve blogged we’d love to bring them together in one place too.
