We recently had the pleasure of spending the afternoon in the company of a small yellow stranger, with a mission all of his own.

After helping his hapless owner learn how to use her camera by dutifully posing for photographs alongside the landmarks and kangaroos in Sydney and Melbourne, our small dapper dressed friend developed a thirst for travel and tourism far and wide. Sadly his owner is not only marginally better at photography and making the move into landscapes, but also considerably lighter of pocket thanks to adventures down under.

How then will he continue his quest to seek out places only those in-the-know will go? we asked.

By the power of Lego and Facebook, he answered with a nonchalant shrug of be-satchelled shoulders. It appears we’re not the only friends he’s made recently having visited The Lakes, Whitby, and even Venice, with a little help from a few bemused and intrigued followers.

The premise is a simple one. People can apply to take Lego Tourist on holiday with them and all they have to do is take a picture of him in a unique location. Maybe you know of  a bar or restaurant that isn’t over-run with tourists? Or a breathtaking view known only to the locals? Think of him as a much younger and considerably more social network savvy (but less posh) Michael Palin.

Naturally with our current buzz about the great places and spaces on our doorstep and our inability to resist a secret spot, we felt it only proper to recruit Lego Tourist as a champion for Home Tourist’s across the land.

He’s already made a start by exploring the rolling fields of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, but he needs your help. Born a Londoner at the toy mecca of Hamleys, he isn’t entirely sure where to go and to what he might find.

So if you’re out and about on the Home Tourist trail why not take him along for the ride? Just go to his Facebook page, leave him a message with details of when and where you’d like to go and a secret rendezvous will be arranged.
