New photography exhibition celebrates Leeds skyline at DoubleTree by Hilton

Towards Ferrybridge #3 (c) Giuseppe Lambertino

22 October – 30 November

Bradford-born photographic artist Giuseppe Lambertino marks his return to DoubleTree by Hilton Leeds City Centre with a new exhibition “Three Day Dig”; featuring a striking series of images which capture Leeds’ rapidly changing skyline. The exhibition comprises ten newly commissioned photographs, taken over three days between 29th and 31st March 2013, which are now on display throughout the hotel.

His first residency at the hotel in 2010, then known as City Inn, documented the inner workings of the building and the heritage of the surrounding area. Giuseppe’s current exhibition considers the future of Leeds and celebrates its contemporary architecture, looking at an artist’s interpretation of the commercial ventures. His inspiration came from recent developments in the Leeds area such as the impressive Leeds Trinity Shopping Centre and the First Direct Arena, he said he “wanted to capture recent constructions without overlooking the majesty of some of its old gems.”

The born and bred Bradford artist is known for exploring the industrial heritage of his native West Yorkshire. In 2009 he was the first artist-in-residence engaged by Gallery II at the University of Bradford, where he developed a series of student portraits.  In the same year he was invited to exhibit work inspired by director David Lynch at the Format09 International Photography Festival in Derby.

Double Tree by Hilton Leeds City Centre champions the cultural community in the region, regularly working in partnership with key arts venues including Northern Ballet and the West Yorkshire Playhouse, and supporting the recent Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle campaign which celebrated the diverse sculpture offering in Yorkshire.

Stephen Turner, General Manager of DoubleTree, said: “Everyone loved Giuseppe’s work the first time so it’s great to see his truly impressive pictures gracing our walls once again. Our guests and visitors like the fact that we have a strong link to the culture scene in the city and we like to take advantage of any opportunity to support local artists or organisations.”
