I am not your typical socialite by any stretch of the imagination, I have a normal job for one, with really antisocial hours as it happens, my daddy isn’t loaded, and I’m not really what you would call glamorous- I’m also a morris dancer for frigs sake!
I do however, as a blogger, (and a bit of a twitter addict) find myself being invited, with an ever increasing frequency to all sorts of foodie, cultural and social events around the city. Here is a round up of this weeks shenanigans.
Thursday was a night with the girls, Cat and Em. Activities started early with a 4pm stop at super cool Italian espresso bar Bottega Milanese on the Calls. It was the launch of the Aperitivo menu, a delectable range of appetiser type snacks starting from just £1.50.
Owner Alex is trying to create a haven of continental class in his little shop, so instead of dashing directly to the pub or home after work, why not stop by, take the time to sit down and chat with friends and enjoy bites such as olives, bruschetta, cured meats and non-alcoholic drinks.
Everything I tried was superb but the thing that really impressed me was the Shakerato- espresso coffee shaken with sugar and vanilla, served cold. Simply amazing, I don’t think I have ever seen- or tasted anything like this in Leeds before.
Next stop was the Oracle Bar for the summer launch of the Moet & Chandon terrace. This is not the type of place I usually hang out. It is always full of beautiful people from what I have seen, but my gosh don’t they know it too!
Anyway there was plenty of free champers which was a bonus and the canapés were delicious- mini burgers and cones of fish and chips- if the main courses are anything like these mini bites then the place is onto a winner.
If you like to party in style then this is the place for you. If like me, you like men to be men and not spend too much time on their hair and spray tans, steer clear. (You will probably be too fat / ugly/ poor to get in anyway!)
After a while we retreated to somewhere more our scene- Pin on Dock Street for a pint of ale and a game of jenga!
Friday was another busy night with a cocktail and cake at the Temple Works hosted by the very excellent Culture Vulture. Not only was there a good crowd of local bloggers and other interesting people, but also the most enormous jug of pimms I have ever seen and cake from Sunshine Bakery. Excellent.
My final stop was Mook in Hirsts Yard for a craft evening hosted by Craftsville. More cake and more cocktails were consumed. Whilst chatting to the ladies I entertained myself by making a ‘zine’ with the very talented Helen from Hello Memo and I also managed to stitch myself a brooch without stabbing myself which was pretty impressive considering my blood alcohol content at that point.I decided soon after this that it was probably time I went home!
I would like to round up this post by saying that I can only write about places that I have been too if I get invited to such places! I am for the purpose of this feature quite easily bought and will attend the opening of a paper bag if you wish to supply my friends and I with sufficient free drink. I will also attend interesting/worthwhile things too and probably give them a few more column inches to boot.
Tres bon Katie. If I had somewhere to invite you I would.
Will you please attend the opening of my plastic bag? It is to be used for the purpose of potato suffocation.
Thankyou.
