Last night as part of Morley Literature Festival we descended upon the best 1950’s diner in the whole of Leeds, run by Bob called Berties. There we proceeded to having romantic readings of Mills & Boon classics from Brian Wakeling and Jess Haigh, brilliant original poetry from Katie Sandham, and the sparky Janey Rodgers reprised her Star Wars is based on Mills & Boon Bettakultcha presentation. Compered by the risque frisky Trevor Organ with mood enhancing music from Bloody Nora (brilliant playlist including Devil Woman by Cliff Richard) and liquidy lurve crooning from Frank Lee Marvellous, the night from my skewwiffy perspective was a tremendous success…until ofcourse I lurched up to discuss the making of Broken Shackles without due preparation and forgot pretty much everything of note…I think I managed to thank the author Adele Morley,(7 people) insult my(absent) husband, discover only 2 people in the audience had ‘Mills&Boon’ standard relationships and that was about it.
Anyway the book is now available to download for the princely sum of 99p! It’s a steal. It’s a little dirty in places, and it’s based on two Leeds lovers, Nate Rothwell & Victoria Quartermain, who are fighting over a little place called Salem.
Help spread the word and get everybody furtively stealing glances at their iphones, kindles, e-readers etc on the bus, between Corrie and Eastenders. Try and guess if the characters are based on anybody you know…try and recreate the sex scenes too if you can…!
Well, you never know what strange and wonderful things a Google Alert on a book title will turn up! Clicked a link and found a pic of someone reading from my book.
What a fab idea to have a M&B evening in a diner! It looked as if immense fun was had by all, and I hope the passage you chose wasn’t too groan-worthy. 😉
