This year marks the first year the Leeds Big Bookend are hosting the Indie Writers’ Festival – an event to develop and celebrate independent writing and publishing.
The festival, in partnership with Leeds Trinity University, is being held on Saturday February 21 – at the main campus – and will be a day packed full of talks, panels and workshops, and the opportunity to meet with book-designers, publishers and writers.
The theme of the event is ‘For The Love of Words’ so words will be celebrated throughout the talks and workshops during the day.
Whether you’re a writer who has written or part-written a book and want it to be published independently, or an already published writer looking for help with marketing or designing your book, the Indie Writers’ Festival is for you.
There’ll be renowned authors and book designers on the day to give you the tips to help you succeed in the industry.
Dee Blick, author of four bestselling books including the number 1 bestseller, ‘The Ultimate Guide to Writing’ and ‘Marketing a Bestselling Book on a Shoestring Budget’, is the keynote speaker for the festival and will give the tips you need to get your book noticed online.
Tricia Walker’s first independently published book, Benedict’s Brother, is currently being shot on location in Thailand and her workshop will give you the information on how she went from self-published to film rights.
Dan Ingram-Brown, the chair of The Leeds Big Bookend and author of The Firebird Chronicles: Rise of the Shadow Stealers, will run a writing workshop to get your creative writing juices flowing.
Ann Victoria Roberts, another bestselling author to be part of the festival, will give an insight in to both indie publishing and mainstream author publishing.
Ned Hoste of the Big Ideas Collective will give help and inspiration on how to design your book cover with the aim to have book shine on the shelf.
Both Paul Hardwick and Amina Alyal are lecturers in the English department at Leeds Trinity University and have partnered together to bring a flash writing competition to the festival, complete with prizes!
And finally, young adult fiction author Martyn Bedford will host an immersive workshop for writers.
If you love words, this is the festival for you.
