I’ve been a big fan of NoBrow since… well since I first heard of them a few years ago. They’re consistently putting out extremely nice publications and initiating interesting projects. NoBrow are situated in London, if you veer off the trendy Shoreditch high street, down Great Eastern Street – this is where you’ll find their very own shop / gallery / workshop.
Friend of mine and Leeds based illustrator Matt Hodson had a show there last year in collaboration with his chum Jon Boam. Jon was one of the artists I invited to ‘Loop Arts Fair’ to participate and a lovely charming bloke he is too, we first met a while ago when I was scribbling on ‘It’s Nice That’s’ stall at this years Pick Me Up in London, when he quietly said to me ‘hi Jay – I’m Jon’ and I got it straight away. He & Matt are working together on a new project I’m involved in called ‘Spirit of The Animal’, producing a new T-Shirt range featuring animals… spirits, for which they delivered a very humorous and enlightening presentation Saturday night at Loop. Jon and I made a transaction while he was in Leeds, he gave me a copy of ‘A Graphic Cosmogony‘, which he produced a new piece for, in return for an ‘Art Is Hard’ T-shirt, good trade from my point of view, this book was also published by NoBrow and I can’t salute it enough.
Well NoBrow are coming to Leeds, which I’m very excited about and they’re bringing the powerful Luke Pearson with them to sign and draw on copies of his new publication ‘Everything We Miss’. Luke is an example of an artist I really admire, he constructs wonderful narrative and compliments with his amazing graphic image making abilities, in an extremely cohesive way.
This rare event is taking place at Comic book shop Travelling Man (Travelling Man Leeds, 32 Central Rd, LS1 6DE.)
Saturday July 23rd / 1 – 4pm
They’ll also be giving away free A2 posters (see above) to people who buy the book, exclusively at the event. Signed and scribbled on!
To my mind independent publishing is extremely important and should be supported. There’s not many accessible artforms that are so dense, rich and colourful you can take home with you for cheap or even take on holiday with you. Not that NoBrow need much support, they speak for themselves, but they’re doing a good thing flying the flag for independent publishing with high quality books with really interesting visual content.
I’m definately going to be there! You should too.

Nobrow is a great little gallery! Especially enjoy the quirky designs and custom books – independent publishing always seems to produce high quality and unique works.
This is a good review of the shop: http://www.theculturalexpose.co.uk/arts-culture/somewhere-you-should-go-nobrow-shop-and-gallery/
