Special Event: 24th April 2012, 6.40pm

Hyde Park Picture House, Leeds

You may have heard of Leeds Canvas by now? If not don’t worry because soon you’ll not be able to remember a time you hadn’t heard of Yorkshire’s Artists Taking the Lead project for the Cultural Olympiad.

Internationally acclaimed artist-filmmakers the Quay Brothers (Stephen & Timothy) were invited to re-imagine Leeds. Taking the city itself as their canvas, and working with musicans, writers, sound artists, choreographers and performers, the results are inspired by Leeds’ people and architecture. OverWorlds & UnderWorlds will reveal itself to the public over one weekend, from 18-20 May, in the heart of Leeds city centre. It’s a mysterious project, preparing to reveal itself in 6 weeks time – but what we know is that it starts at County Arcade, and ends at the Dark Arches, and everything in between….may, or may not, be real.

The Quay Brothers will personally introduce four of their films (having met with them, I can’t stress highly enough, how rare this is…)

Maska (2010)

Street of Crocodiles (1987)

In Absentia (2000)

Stille Nacht 1: Dramolet (1988)

Introduced by the Quay Brothers in person, they have generously allowed us to use their personal prints of Maska and In Absentia. See their work as it was intended on 35mm film and stay for an informal q&a with the Quay Brothers about their work after the screening.

We have a limited allocation of tickets for invited guests to this very special event.ย These tickets are allocated on a first come first serve basis, and preference will be given to Yorkshire based bloggers & Culture Vulture editors.
