After a well-deserved Hibernation, Jess Haigh has dusted off The Travelling Suitcase Library and is gearing up to assault various venues around Leeds in the next few weeks to raise some money for Charity, Awareness, and generally spread the gospel about the printed word.
This Friday (16 March) she’ll be hosting doing a book swap at the Oblong Fundraiser, at TJ’s in Woodhouse. It’s £3 and includes local bands, DJs and circus performers – and all money raised goes to support Oblong’s community projects.
On Sunday 25 March, from 1-4 (ish) she’lll be doing a book swap along with a Plus Size Clothes Swap, in Wharf Chambers (Behind the Corn Exchange). This event is a body positive swap of masculine and feminine clothing over a UK size 16/Large and costs £1 entrance. You can buy tea and cake and there will be a selection of body positive reading materials and zines for your perusal, as well as a sewing skills sharing workshop and alteration station.
Finally, on World Book Night, (23 April) Jess will be spending the afternoon in Cafe 164, next to the Leeds Gallery, in conjunction with www.ForBooksSake.net . There will be a book swap in the afternoon and from 6, a book themed quiz. Details can be found here.
Then, on the evening of World Book Night, the Travelling Suitcase Library will be having a reading party at Arcadia. Building on the success of last years event, where over 500 books were given away for free for locals in Arcadia, we’ll be celebrating both the World Book Night selection of books, as well as reading in general.
Keep an eye out for more details in the upcoming weeks on Jess’s Blog.l
excellent put up, very informative. I wonder why the other specialists of this sector do not notice this.
