Vagabonds Breakfast Club presents Pool & BBQ Party at Ilkley Lido: we asked Kate Scott to find out what it’s all about …

Imagine sitting by a large outdoor pool surrounded by idyllic British countryside, sipping a cocktail and having your ears tickled by some live music. Throw in an art deco style dance floor, a gourmet BBQ and some disco vibes and you have yourself quite a unique party.

This Saturday 8th June Vagabonds Breakfast Club are giving party goers the opportunity to experience all of the above by hosting a Pool Party & BBQ at the famous Ilkley Lido.

Ilkley Lido has seen its fair share of entertainment since its grand opening in May 1935. The pool was designed by Frank Skinner a surveyor with Ilkley District Council at the time. With its original opening date corresponding with King George V Silver Jubilee the pool has attracted thousands of visitors over the years and provided summertime entertainment to people of all ages.

Vagabonds Breakfast Club is yet again providing adventurous party goers the chance to experience something unique and memorable by organising a Pool Party & BBQ with live entertainment at this rare Lido.

Event’s organiser and promoter Rich Hilson is actually bringing something new and fresh to the party scene by setting up these occasional events the last one being a New York Loft Party at Munro House in December. As well as organising the one off Vagabonds Breakfast Club events he also runs other nights such as SHHH_ift and CAGED which have been held at some unique and unexpected locations around Leeds including cage fighting gyms, skate parks and the wonderful Temple Works.

Vagabonds Breakfast Club seems to be unique in the sense that it stands out from the crowd and creates a night out that won’t be forgotten in a hurry. With Leeds having such a varied party scene it can at times be difficult to find somewhere that meets your expectations of how you think a night out should be.
Rich describes his events as “secretive and unexpected – which means you have to be pretty adventurous to even find out about our events… which means… only the most adventurous find us… and a room full of adventurous people makes for a great atmosphere and a very memorable party with no pretentiousness.”

So where will the night take you?

Starting at 5pm with a coach trip from Leeds City Centre ticketholders will arrive at the lido and have a chance to swim in the outdoor pool whilst the coals heat up on the BBQ. A variety of specially made cocktails and other drinks will also be available along with some gourmet BBQ food including a vegetarian option for all meat-free lovers!

The entertainment is perfect for this kind of party with the electro synth duo Galaxians performing a live set for the final gig of their UK tour as well as more entertainment from no wave disco band Unmade Bed who will also be sharing their musical talents with you and showing you how to get the party started!
As the evening progresses there will be no shortage of entertainment as party goers will be lured to the dance floor by more disco vibes from the likes of DJ Lucy Locket and more.

This party isn’t the kind to leave you hanging though and the ticket price does include a return coach trip back to Leeds at 1am where there are rumours of after parties for those of you who don’t want the good times to end!
