Leeds TiE create and perform educational theatre programmes for different groups in the community. Performances might happen at 9am in a school hall or 1.30pm in a community centre with a parents support group. On October 11th at 7pm, Leeds TiE will be at The Workshop Theatre, University of Leeds and this is a rare opportunity for you to see the UK’s most experienced theatre in education practitioners in action.
As part of the Love Arts Festival, Leeds TiE will present the play “Bad Mummy”.
The Love Arts Festival explores the connections between the arts and mental health and well being.
“Bad Mummy” was devised by the company and written by Leeds writer Paul Swift. The company worked alongside Dramatherapists from the East Leeds Multi Agency Support Team to develop the play.
It’s the story of a family, Liam is 11, Amy is 6 and their mum, Helen, has just been rushed into hospital. Amy’s dad, Rob, has driven over to look after them, and he’s on the phone to the hospital when the social workers arrive. What really happened in that house? Liam knows, but he’s not talking. So everybody turns to Amy.
“I could tell you a story, cos I’m good at stories..Once upon a time there was a little princess and she lived happily with her mummy and her big brother. Then one day the aliens moved into number 22 and they took Nice Mummy and they left Bad Mummy the evil witch in her place…”
Leeds TiE have toured “Bad Mummy” in Leeds to young people in and out of school, parent’s groups, women’s groups, family support groups, domestic violence support groups, offenders, supported tenants and professional groups.
For the festival, the play will be followed by a panel discussion on the role of theatre in representing mental health and in educating health and social care professionals about mental health issues.

Saw my first LeedsTIE performance yesterday. Truly inspiring, thought provoking and bittersweet. Recommend them highly! This is the way that (almost) all education should be….
