We Love The Web digital agency have decided to team up with an incredible charity, the Leeds based Heart Research UK, to host a hack day at Hebden Bridge Town Hall on Saturday 30th November. Jen Garrick tells us why.

On November 30th the agency I work for, We Love The Web, will be 10 years old. Now, more than ever (thanks recession), reaching that milestone feels like an incredible achievement. A lot of people have done a lot of digital marketing to help us get to where we are today and the whole team feel incredibly lucky to have not only survived, but thrived in one of the most exciting industries out there.

It would’ve been easy to mark our birthday with an almighty knees up; trust us, we considered it! But frankly that just didn’t seem like the best use of time or resources. We spend our days thinking about ROI until we’re blue in the face so unbridled frivolity doesn’t sit well with us!

Instead we’ve decided to team up with an incredible charity, the Leeds based Heart Research UK, to host a hack day at Hebden Bridge Town Hall on Saturday 30th November. Our logo has been a heart for the last decade so it seemed like a great fit for us to work with a heart charity when the lovely folks at Skill Will (if you don’t know who they are then check them out!) put in touch. But honestly that’s just a delicious tedious link.

The hack is really a chance to bring together the rich digital community in our area for a fantastic cause. From Manchester to Leeds and a whole load of places in between there are designers, developers and marketers hiding behind every corner (and at least two internet enabled devices).

We want to unite these incredibly skilled individuals in a bid to devise marketing and fundraising solutions for Heart Research UK. The challenge of a hack day is just that, we’ll only have one day to do it in. Whether you come as part of a team or as an individual there are plenty of ways to help. From designing an HTML email to creating a totaliser to be used as a feature on the website, there will be something for everyone who comes along on the day.

Jen Garrick and Frank Fenten of We Love The Web

To keep things really interesting, and because We Love The Web has reached the 500th project milestone this month, our hackers will have just 500 minutes (that’s 8 hours, 33 minutes) to create their digital masterpieces. We’ll be supplying everyone with tea, coffee, snacks and a buffet lunch to keep the creative juices flowing throughout the day. And of course, this is still a birthday party, so once the time is up there will be celebratory drinks at the bar and a chance to relax and check out everyone’s good work.

So why am I telling you this?

Well, the hack is all a pipedream without the support of the talented digital community here in Yorkshire (and anywhere else for that matter – you can volunteer your time remotely if you’re further afield). We need your help to give Heart Research UK the digital tools they need to keep doing their vitally important work.

So, if you can spare some time on Saturday 30th November to help out this wonderful charity then sign up now on Eventbrite. (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/10500-hack-day-for-heart-research-uk-registration-9201081683)
