In the first of our monthly series of pocket pleasing competitions we have teamed up with one of Leeds favourite independent haunts Sela Bar and historic Leeds favourite The Brudenell Social Club. If you weren’t already aware Sela has recently expanded from it’s intimate basement to a ground floor restaurant, serving quality locally sourced hearty food at very reasonable rates. Rather than tell you all about how wonderful Sela is here is a recent review from regular Culture Vulture blogger Them Apples and one from the YEP
The concept is dead simple, you enter into the competition by letting us know what your favourite current tune is in the comments box below, you tweet you’ve entered the competition by inserting this into your tweet: There’s a great opportunity to eat for free @selabar & enjoy a gig at The Brudenell, take a look http://ow.ly/3C5mX @culturevultures
Then we pick a winner at random, you choose a date to have a slap up meal with a bottle of wine for 2 at Sela, and a pair of gig tickets at The Brundenell, (subject to availability and redeemed by 21st February). Better still you don’t have to pack both in on the same night, but you do have to craft a review which we stick on the site! Simple? Don’t worry if you don’t write for a living, a fair and honest write up is what our readers appreciate.
What’s more we create a spotify playlist to share based on the music that/s worming around in your lug holes!

A Vital Organ – The Ordeal – Stuart Warwick
Current top track is ‘Beat Me ‘Til I’m Blue’ by Leeds’ very own Alan Hawkshaw.
How about ‘Pass the Peas’ by the JB’s?
Falling In Love With You Again by Imelda May (Love Tattoo) is was I’ve got in my head. Super romantic
The Duke Spirit — Everybody’s Under Your Spell
corporations by Martha Tilston. Lovely folky stuff.
I just got into a band called Papaye. Watermelon Frappe is an excellent tune (and song title :D). They played The George the other day but my mate chose that evening to go into labour so I didn’t get to see them. She won’t even call the baby Watermelon Frappe as consolation to me.
Where Do My Bluebird Fly by The Tallest Man On Earth. Listening non-stop since he played Brudenell a couple of months ago.
Stornoway – We are battery human.
I was slow to get to know Stornaway and they played a blinding gig at The Cockpit.
‘Home’ by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
Makes my brain warm and gives my feet a beat to jump around to! Ha! 🙂
Untitled 01 by Brand New. Short but sweet.
My tune of the moment is Intergalactic Laxative by Donovan, it’s great if you need cheering up… “and for cosmic constipation there’s none that can compare” 🙂

Lone Wolf- Keep Your Eyes on the Road
Brilliant set last night at the Brudenell. And this track is excellent.
Real Esate – Out of tune
this song makes me long for spring and summer…
Listening to Bhang Bhang, I’m a Burnout by The Dum Dum Girls- obviously I need to win so I can see them at the Brudenell in April!
“Tangerine” by First Aid Kit. Sometimes the simple stuff is the good stuff.
You’re my flame – zero 7. Just makes me want dance!
I’m going for D’Gary – Resaka Marandray. He’s a Madagascan guitarist – amazing and beautiful!
Nick Drake – Cello Song. Sung and played so beautifully every time you hear it it makes you wanna cry.
My favourite ever, ever, ever song (this week) is ‘Street Life’ by Roxy Music.
part chimp – war machine

Neu! – Hallogallo is the one tune I keep fumbling through on my ipod at the moment.
A beautiful, warm and ever growing soundscape of happiness.
A recurring favourite is Goldrush by Vancouver hip-hoppers Sweatshop Union.
Great tune, great lyrics….
