West Yorkshire Playhouse: Need YOU!

WEST YORKSHIRE PLAYHOUSE
SEEKING PARTICIPANTS FOR MAJOR NEW PROJECT
Transform Portraits
Participants Call-out
The West Yorkshire Playhouse and Chris Goode & Company are seeking nine participants to take part in a major new project, to be performed as part of the Transform Festival at West Yorkshire Playhouse in April 2012. No prior performance experience is required.
An exciting creative team comprising directors, designers and other theatre artists will work with each of the nine participants individually to create nine short solo pieces in the form of ‘performance portraits’. The nine selected participants will then perform their own solo in front of a live audience when the pieces are eventually brought together to create a full-length theatre show.
There will be performances of the finished show in the Courtyard Theatre at West Yorkshire Playhouse, on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st April 2012, as part of the Transform Festival.
The Transform Portraits project builds on Chris Goode & Company’s earlier open-access piece Open House to offer a range of individuals the experience of working closely in collaboration with professional theatre makers to create beautifully crafted and expertly produced performance portraits of themselves. Chris Goode & Company are committed to working in ways that foster a characteristic tone of openness and friendliness.

West Yorkshire Playhouse / Transform Festival 12
West Yorkshire Playhouse opened in 1990 and is one of the largest, most exciting and active producing theatres in the UK. It successfully balances a firm commitment to serving the communities in its region alongside maintaining a national profile for the quality of its work. The Transform Festival is the second of its kind to be produced by WYP. Transform 2012 will see a celebratory, anarchic and playful programme of work by extraordinary theatre makers from Leeds and beyond, spanning performance across the building, in both theatre spaces, and encompassing theatre, late night music, feasting, discussion and cabaret.
Chris Goode & Company
Chris Goode & Company is a collaboration between lead artist Chris Goode and producer Ric Watts, with the involvement of a fluid, constantly evolving ensemble of performers and makers. The company was formed to develop original and exploratory theatre projects across a variety of contexts, focusing on ensemble-based and participatory processes, and on formally innovative but accessible approaches to documentary and storytelling. Since its inception in March 2011, the company has originated productions for venues including the Drum Theatre Plymouth and West Yorkshire Playhouse, as well as site-responsive work for the Edinburgh Fringe; and it is currently developing new pieces with Ovalhouse and the Unicorn Theatre.
