On Thursday 6th of February (7.30pm) Balbir Singh Dance Company (BSDC) will present, for the first time, a triple bill of works – Play of Percentages, Decreasing Infinity and Trespass #II. These captivating performances from the company repertoire form a heady synthesis of western contemporary dance, Indian dance style Kathak and mesmerising music. Created and Choreographed by Balbir Singh, a previous student of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, the performance presents locals with an ideal opportunity to submerge themselves in the company’s cross-cultural approach.

Play of Percentages is the result of a nine month exploration of how contemporary dancers are affected and changed by training in Kathak. Balbir himself was educated in contemporary dance at NSCD, before happening to chance upon Kathak. The results of these two styles overlapping and extending themselves to the other are presented in Decreasing Infinity, a powerful male duet accompanied by live music (tabla and human beatboxing). Trespass #II, brings us to a more abstract, visceral realisation of the encounters between the forms.

The company is also touring its pool-based Synchronised to three regions across the UK (London, Leicester and Blackburn/Burnley), supported by the Arts Council England’s Strategic Touring Fund.
