To Take Away

I like personal service (no not like that, pervert!). I like it when I feel like the people you choose to buy food from can be bothered with more than simply taking your order and hand it to you. I also like it when people warm to my dog.

While Bengal Brasserie got the first half of this equation spot on straight away; when delivering to our house, the always polite and interested chaps were to be found no nearer than 30 yards from our front door, cowering at the bottom of the steps:

“Delivery for you – sorry, I’m scared of dogs”

Nevertheless, the value and standard of food, coupled with the chirpy telephone and delivery manner of the Bengal Brasserians kept myself (“Ah it’s Mister Rich”) and my ace missus (“Lady Hannah” to give her her full Bengal Brasserie title) coming back for more and more.

The Food, oh my Life, The Food!

It’s also great to see a restaurant go that bit beyond the call of duty in terms of the menu, and BB’s specialities are a step beyond your average selection (the Murg Kandhari is a particular household favourite) and the vegetarian selection is plentiful too. There’s all the usual fare from massallas through to jalfrezis and beautifully presented they are too. Meatiful and expertly seasoned, but there’s a fine fish selection and a delicate liver tikka starter too if you want to go a little to one side of the norm. [nom nom nom]

Incentives

They’ll reward regular customers and club members with discounts and for take-away customers there’s a free meal if you order thrice in a month. If you want to try BB’s food but don’t know what to try, the Sunday buffet is worth a punt. Personally, I’m tempted to get down there at 3pm one Sunday, take the paper or a laptop and make a day of it.

Eating In

I’m delighted to say that on eating in at BB for the first time, the friendly service was amplified from our already high expectations. Mister Rich and Lady Hannah were treated to warm and attentive (but not intrusive) service, like you’re the most important customers in there. Amazing.

Again, the food was just fantastic. It’s one thing to get your favourite curries in a takeaway tin but the presentation sets it off a treat.

In Conclusion

Bengal Brasserie will doubtless remain the default take-away at our house, and if I’m eating near home, it’s high up the list; it’s where we Hope and Social had a our record label meal out!

Top food, great value, ace service, gorgeous staff. Eat-in, take home or delivery, I heartily recommend Bengal Brasserie.

Addendum

NB: Further to all the above, I’m very happy to report that our cowering, dog fearing restaurant based friend recently braved a journey to our car as we picked up a meal on the way home. Odlum the dog even got a wee pat on the head.

“It took a lot for me to do that Lady Hannah”

Now I’m off to order a Special Handi Cocktail.

  1. Glad you enjoyed it; I think Bengal gets slightly overshadowed by the success of Sheesh Mahal down the road. The fod is wonderful. Last time I was there, I had a Duck Curry which was lovely; and I’ve never seen that before. good stuff!

    1. Yep I do know what you mean. Sheesh Mahal was my default favourite when I first moved near here… That said, I think BB has the edge these days, in terms of service and food (and they deliver!).

  2. Sounds fab, I’ll remember for future reference! I think it is in the same place as the Khyber Pass was when I lived on Wetherby Grove (1993-2003!), though the Corner Cafe was always our fave!

  3. Leigh… trying to resist the “they don’t deliver… they do chicken, lamb, fish…” gag.

Indeed, they deliver, and they’re always a pleasure.

Nicola, it used to be Bobby’s Kushbu, which I hear was great, but this seems more personable. Super tasty too.

  4. Link exchange is nothing else however it is only placing the other person’s website link on your page at appropriate place and other person will also do similar for you.
