Guest Blogger Haley from DuckEgg Theatre explains why she’s bringing a bunch of local teenagers to Temple.Works.Leeds for a one off performance . . .

I moved to Holbeck a year or so and was mesmerised by Temple Works the first time I laid eyes on it. I got the chance to get through the doors during the Culture Vulture’s Travelling Moleskine Arty Party, which furthered my interest in it as a performance space – it is brimming with history, impressively vast and almost tells its own stories. It struck me as a great place for young performers to be inspired by their surroundings and explore site-specific performance.

Now, thanks to the Breeze International Youth Festival , Duck Egg Theatre Company are giving 14-21 year olds the opportunity to work creatively in Temple Works for a whole week (30th May – 3rd June, 10am-3pm). They will create their own production company and work with a Theatre Director to put together a performance around the theme of ‘Hometown Pride’, which will take the audience on a journey through the building.

I am excited to see what the performers come up with – we are completely open to all artforms and i’m hearing some fantastic ideas on the grapevine already! Not only will the project be a great creative opportunity, it’s also a chance for a fun week of meeting new people with similar interests and they can even gain an Arts Award qualification.

We want to hear from young actors, dancers, designers, technicians and anybody interested in performance. To get involved email haley@duckegg.org.uk or call 07723 371833 to book your place.

Fancy coming to see the show on Friday 3rd June, 8:30pm? Then give the box office a call on 0113 2243801!
