Festival of Reading and Writing

Thursday 23rd April – Friday 1st May

The launch of the Festival of Reading and Writing on Thursday 23rd April, from 12pm to 4pm, sees the University’s own Living Library event where instead of borrowing an ordinary old book you have the chance to borrow a person and listen to their stories.

Alongside seminars and exhibitions, other Festival highlights include Stairwaves where the Library at Civic Quarter Library will have its stairwells filled with the sounds of reading and writing, and a screening of Trevor Nunn’s acclaimed adaptation of King Lear. Take part in a creative writing workshop held in the atmospheric setting of The Old Courtroom in Leeds Town Hall or hear author and journalist Blake Morrison reading from his bestselling memoirs ‘And When Did You Last See Your Father?’.

The Festival ends on Friday 1st May with a full-day event exploring the meaning and traditions of May Day by the people who brought you last year’s highly innovative Talking Heads.

The events take place between Thursday 23rd April and Friday 1st May, at their library location entrance near the Dry Dock Pub, Woodhouse Lane. Check out their website to read the timetable (then turn up late, with scruffy hair and slouch in reeking of last night to channel that student vibe!).
