Futuresound Competition – play at Leeds & Reading

The Pigeon Detectives

Summer is almost upon us and that can only mean one thing for West Yorkshire bands – The Futuresound Competition and your shot to play at Leeds and Reading Festival. Futuresound are looking for local acts to take part in the annual competition which showcases the best of local talent in a battle of the bands style competition to win a slot on the Leeds and Reading Festival Republic Line Ups.

The overall winner will for the first time this year play on the NME/Radio 1 Stage alongside the likes of At The Drive In and local heroes The Cribs. The five runners up will get the opportunity to play at both festivals on the BBC Introducing Stages which in previous years has always showcased the best in new bands.

With the likes of The Pigeon Detectives, Wild Beasts, Pulled Apart By Horses, and the Sunshine Underground making the nation stand up and take note that Leeds is the place to be for music, promoters of the Cockpit & Futuresound are fully aware that the city has loads more top acts to offer and this competition is the opportunity for local bands to get noticed.

The competition is now in its twelfth year. Last year saw a huge amount of top quality entrants with the likes of The Coopers, Castrovalva, Heart-Ships and Arthur Rigby and the Baskervylles finishing in the top six. Hopefully this year will prove to be even better.

The competition will take place on 15 dates running from the end of June and over the course of July featuring a four band line-up each night. Each gig will be judged by three judges from within the Leeds music Industry.

Full details about the competition, conditions of entry and application forms can be found on www.thecockpit.co.uk. The deadline for entries is Friday 1st June.
