Dragonboat Boat Festival 27th & 28th June, Brewery Wharf, Leeds
The lovely folks at Leeds Community Foundation are behind this splashing around on t’ river and have this to say about the experience (having held one last year too)
‘Words cannot describe just how much fun a Dragon Boat Race is! This year we are holding the racing over the weekend due to popular demand with 42 teams all in fancy dress entered! Imagine it . . . paddles splashing, drums beating and crowds of people cheering around Clarence Dock as the boats race to the finish line. This is without doubt one of those ‘must see’ or ‘must try’ events – put the dates in your diaries. As well as the dragon boat racing there are a whole host of family activities and entertainment planned for Brewery Wharf including a world food market, arts and crafts, musicians and street performers! Something for all the family’.
Do contact Amanda at Leeds Community Foundation if you are desparate to do more than be a spectator!
I do love this event and I look forward to the next one this coming Saturday but the noise and hustle bustle can be a bit of a nightmare, especially if you like in one of the Brewery Wharf apartments and you’re unable to move outr of your front door! Perhaps the locals should be provided with dragonboats to get around the city a little easier!
family activities are very nice to have, it also strengthens the bond among family members ;`~
