Holy Moley! Part 8 Hannah Nicklin

hannah h moley

When  Hannah Nicklin is not perfecting the fine art of sleep she keeps herself pretty busy!

Who are you and what do you do? I do lots of things. I write plays, I blog about theatre and technology, I work with arts companies on their social media ‘strategies’, I don’t like words like ‘strategy’, I attend and amplify events, I am quite politically active, and I am also doing a PhD in Theatre and (digital) Technology. Who I am changes every day.

What are you currently working on? I am currently working with theatre companies on a couple of plays – one imagines a single child policy in Europe, and the other dramatises the meeting between a MMO player and her avatar. I am also beginning my PhD in October, and in the meantime working with Theatre Writing Partnership on launching their new programme of activities, which will include a pretty exciting online collaboration project.

What inspires you? I am inspired to action by the pain of injustice, suffering and monopolisation. I am inspired to write by the pain of love and the hurt of never quite being, thinking or feeling, everything you’re told you should be. I am inspired to learn by my love for the world, and all the wonderful ideas in it.

What’s currently keeping you awake at night? I’m really good at sleeping, and I do it quite a lot. So nothing. If something were to keep me up, it would probably be feminism or climate-change related.

If you had five more hours a day, what would you do? Truthfully? Probably sleep even more. But I’d like to think I’d fit more learning in. Maybe a painting or two.
