In the art of….Pecha Kucha #05

Sheffield’s Creative Pantry, consisting of Jonny Douglas, Clare MacKenzie and Ben Duong, bring us PKN#05. This time linking up with Sheffield University’s Student Union and the Flash team there are no bounds to this event, in what is promising in both stature and the top line up, to be their biggest night so far.

Originally formed as a way of showcasing and networking young designers Pecha Kucha has grown from strength to strength around the world. It’s not a networking event as such so no business attire of any sort is allowed instead there is a bar, a bunch of creative sorts and plenty of talk.

If you’re not familiar with the concept of Pecha Kucha itself, think ‘chit chat’. A set of presentations immersed in a 20×20 approach: 20 slides with 20 seconds with as much talk as the presenter manage per section. It’s challenging, informative and occasionally goes a little bit haywire. To coin a phrase ‘expect the unexpected’.

The theme for PK05 is ‘in the art of…’ it’s left open and slightly ambiguous as each presenter is given the title then interprets it at their will. Looking at the line up for this extravaganza it’s certainly going to be interesting. There are 13 willing participants for who have been carefully selected, they include the illustrious beard wearing Lord Bunn, sex expert Professor Feona Attwood, architectural photography guru Wojtek Gurak, magic man Benoit Benz Compin and web design moogle Bea Marshall.

I wonder if they know about the 8ft presentation screen and the plasma TV’s that will be broadcasting their performances?!
It doesn’t stop with the talking, there is also two musical acts for the night, in the form of the glamorous and very talented Hayley Toothill and Francis and the Funky Presidents and then thrown into the mix a superstar* DJ spinning the decks of fury (*note: may not be an actually superstar DJ).

There will be banter, laughs, drinks, music and more…what more do you need from a Thursday night?
PKN#05
