Last week Bottega Milanese owner Alex Galantino opened his doors to his new venture in The Light to our giddy troupe of random culture vultures. Being a perfectionist, this was high risk for Alex, trusting us to imagine the finished space ahead of the official opening. Despite his concerns we might focus on the not quite readiness, we were able to see past the unpacked boxes, as his famed attention to detail was in much evidence, from the sourcing of the lights (Plumen), to the sleek beast of his much lusted after coffee machine (Sanremo ‘Roma’). It’s fair to say I’m a ‘no coffee past midday‘ kind of girl, so an espresso, a moka (ask for a sharing moka pot) and a chocolate at 9pm had me feeling/reeling high for a few hours after.
I can see this concept being a great alternative for pre a night out stop off, for those who need a natural shot of stamina! Alex shared some of his future plans with us, which had more than a few of us salivating, I’ll not spoil the surprise yet, but suffice to say those with a desire for something a bit different will be pleasantly surprised.
Visiting a couple of days later I spied two elegant ladies perched on the high white stools sharing cake and coffee for lunch. Somehow the scene transported me to a different place, and for a minute I fancied myself abroad on holiday. I had to be pulled back from the counter from the arancini (risotto balls) but next time they wont be so lucky. This is just what we need more of in the heart of Leeds. People with passion serving up great experiences. The Light is definitely a better destination with the addition of Bottega Milanese.
