Hands up how many of you have already enjoyed a Light Night experience? If you haven’t then it’s time you felt like you were part of Leeds best kept secrets! If you have, then we are preaching to the converted. In it’s fifth year Light Night in Leeds is a well and truly exciting experience, we’re gutted it’s only on for one night – the 9th October, as we will be hosting our own (fully booked) event at Temple Works, and cannot clone ourselves to take full advantage of close to 100 events that will be taking place all over the city. You may find that a challenge too, so we have picked a couple for you, but please don’t just take our word for it, head over to the website, chart a route, don your walking shoes, pocket a Kendal Mint bar and spend dusk till dawn rediscovering the Leeds you thought you knew…

So you thought you knew… Leeds Shopping Plaza?
Remember the Old TK Maxx store? Upstairs on the top floor? Well it’s no longer home to brand bargains. Forget foraging amongst the rails for Ben Sherman, and enjoy immersing yourself in a live musical installation centred on the ebb and flow of the energy within the performance. Whatever that really sounds like we would be intrigued to know, so do get along to PLaY, by Dick Bonham, Jamie Fletcher and give us a mini review in the comments box below.

Draw the Monsters out…
Pavillion, Saw Mill Yard, Holbeck Urban Village 17:30 – 22:00
Did you know that monsters have been lurking in the dark corners and crevices of Leeds city centre for hundreds of years, trapped by the concrete buildings that have sprung up around them? During Light Night you can set them free! Release a monster by conjuring up a monster name and description and text to 07890991418 or tweet to @pavilion_org any time before or during Light Night.

When you have conjured up your monster come down to Pavilion and watch a live illustrator draw the monsters, or even join in the drawing yourself.

There will also be invisible monsters hiding around the Round Foundry! Follow the clues on your Monster Spotters Guide to find the places where they live, then use the Magical Monstervision Machine to spot the monsters and collect important scientific information about them. Collect your Monster Spotters Guide and Magical Monstervision Machine from Pavilion.

Other personal highlights

Follow the plinths which have escaped the Art Gallery and off for a wander (Artists group Woolgather), WiiSpray – electronic graffiti, allowing you to go mad with a virtual spray can with no asbos in sight at the Ha Ha Bar (Andy Sykes). Witness interesting developments in the changing rooms at Ace Clothing,  follow the trail of digital dream catchers (The Culture Company) Enjoy the spectacular perspective photographer  Peter Broad has of Leeds as you ascend the Town Hall Clock Tower.

We only scratch the surface with the events we have picked out, we urge you to go enjoy a Leeds that you don’t get to experience very often.
