Long Live the Kings

Long Live The Kings is a brand new exhibition that has been launched this week in the upstairs ‘Enoteca’ bar at Salvo’s restaurant in Headingley.

The show has been created by Leeds based ‘We The Collective’ a dynamic group of young women whose talents include photography, make-up artistry and creative direction.

The blurb says ‘Long Live The Kings is a series of photographs that explore feminism and sexual politics, social performance between the two sexes, how we interact with each other and how make-up and clothes can transform someone. The series has its own historical timeline travelling along the notions of gender relationships. There is also a traceable line of exploration starting in the 1900s where the photos move from static, stiff portraits towards the more relaxed documentary framing of modern day’

I don’t want to talk too much in detail about the photos as there is a really clever twist that runs through the exhibition that needs to be seen to be believed.

What I can tell you its that the photo are beautifully shot with amazing costumes, make-up and staging and presented in a way that is both interesting and accessible. The images are playful and amusing yet thought provoking. Definitely worth a look.

Long Live the Kings can be visited at any time when Salvo’s is open, you do not have to be a restaurant customer to visit the exhibition.
