Non Conventional Career Paths (aka making it up as you go along)

Ahead of delivering a workshop to Retail Ready People’s People I asked twitter ‘What *one’ piece of advice would you offer people embarking on their working lives? I will shamelessly steal it for my workshop (really!)’ Keep your answers coming and I’ll pop em on. As one of my bits of advice is ‘be open and share’ here’s the link to my slides!

  17. @culturevultures As Malcolm Gladwell says, it’s all about the first 10,000 hours. Put the work in & learn all you can about your craft.
  18. Be inquisitive, open and honest
  19. @culturevultures ask questions all the time and call people out when you don’t understand what they’re saying.
  20. @culturevultures don’t assume everyone else knows what they’re doing. They’re often as lost as you but they’ve learned to bluff.
  21. @culturevultures Don’t be afraid to ask questions and find the people who will be happy to answer them. #learn
  22. @culturevultures Appear a bit thicker than you are, so co-workers are helpful because you’re not a threat. Smart-alecs get frozen out.
  23. @culturevultures And for newbie journos it means people tell you stuff they shouldn’t so you get a cracking story.
