TRIBUTE TO MUSICIAN NICK DRAKE AT HYDE PARK PICTURE HOUSE

Had he not died tragically at the age of 26, English singer-songwriter Nick Drake would have been 65 this June. On 16th June Hyde Park Picture House present a celebration of his life and music. The Picture House will be screening the short documentary A SKIN TOO FEW: THE DAYS OF NICK DRAKE (from a 35mm film print) alongside live performances of Nick’s music by London based folk musicians GLACIERS and LOWPINES.

‘In the absence of any surviving footage of Nick Drake performing, the beautiful and evocative documentary A SKIN TOO FEW focuses instead on the people that were closest to him and the landscapes and locations that shaped his life – the Warwickshire countryside, the bedroom of his childhood home and the cities of London and Cambridge’ says Film Programmer Andy Moore.

To explore these themes Leeds-based psychogeographer and film studies academic Tina Richardson will give a talk after the film. Tina will discuss the significance of place within the documentary and there will be a chance for members of the audience to ask Tina questions.

‘This special event is exclusive to Hyde Park Picture House for one night only,’ continues Andy. ‘It will be a fitting tribute to a great musician.’

  1. My dad and I love Nick Drake. Dad’s birthday is 16th June and I’d love to surprise him by gifting him tickets to such a lovely event. It’d be such a nice thing to go to together.

  2. Because I’m not already familiar with Nick Drake’s work and events like this are a good way to discover new music.

Also the Woody Guthrie one they did last year was excellent.

  3. I’d like to treat my poorly best friend. I know it would put a big smile back on his face.
