On Saturday 4th September I attended the Test Space Kitchen event.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect . It promised:
-a special Victorian menu created by local food writer and blogger Mike Wallis, expert food forager Mina Said and the award winning Sunshine Bakery: involving de-constructed whole hog, giant Eton mess, pastry covered fruit, loaned pineapples, local foraged food and more
-a food themed set by YouTube jockey Tim Ineaux
-live music across the night
-food porn photography challenges as part of Exposure Leeds Photo Week
-food conversations, debate and discussions
All for the sum of £10.
Because the menu didn’t divulge much I wrongly assumed I’d be getting a pork sandwich.
How silly of me, I was so wrong…
We arrived at Temple Works and signed in, where I promptly banged my head (idiot) and were seated on long tables. After purchasing wine we sat down and had a look at the menu and I was pleasantly surprised to see we were to be eating a selection of pork dishes.
We were able to chatter away while we waited for the food to arrive, the excitement mounting as we waited. When it did arrive and we could go and queue up to get our tucker I could barely contain myself and rushed up to get in the queue. Other people were a bit more dignified – but I was too hungry for dignity!
The food was fantastic, I enjoyed every bit of it. Particularly the stew! But I have a confession… I was so overexcited at the prospect of filling my plate with deliciousness that I helped myself to the vegetarian food as well as meat eater food – so for that I must apologise to the veggies…
We were allowed to digest our food and consume more drinks, things started to get hazy for me at this point, I’d drunk a lot of wine by then, and then pudding was served!
The Eton Mess was a fantastic construction, really spectacular to look at. Unfortunately I don’t eat meringue, so I was overjoyed to see I could have a cupcake instead. I loved my cupcake, creamy icing on the top and lovely moist sponge for the cake, and a strawberry always goes down well!
I had a brilliant evening, made some new friends, and drank a lot of wine. I paid for the wine consumption yesterday. I’ll be looking forward to the next Kitchen event, but will hopefully drink a little less wine next time!
Well done with the food Mike, and well done the Test Space gang, fantastic night.

Sounds delicious and hilarious. What a heady mix of food fanatics organising it too!
I can’t wait for the next one. I heard it’s fish next time.
Had a brilliant night, sat on the end of the table with two fab girls I’d never met before, we nattered into the small hours and moved on and nattered some more.
Was great fun, apart from the lush food I loved the music & the setting – atmospheric. The hangover wasn’t so much fun.
