Some of you may remember that Words Aloud was Sheffield’s premier spoken word night while it ran for two memorable years between 2006-2008. Founded by a group of writing colleagues from Nether Edge design agency The Workshop, the night gained in popularity thanks to its ‘broad church’ approach. A celebration of the spoken word for writers – like minds met, creative collaborations took hold and new spoken word nights sprang up.
Now Words Aloud is back for one night only on 9th June, a hotly anticipated highlight of Sheffield’s annual literary calendar. The reunion will take place at the charming Lantern Theatre in Nether Edge, is a ticket-only affair and promises to reunite old friends as well as first-time readers sharing both their own work and work of their peers and literary idols.
The evening kicks off at 7.30pm, and tickets are selling fast. You can book yours in advance for £3 from The Lantern Theatre’s website , with all proceeds going to local young people’s housing charity Roundabout. So if you fancy a night out with a difference, whether you’ve a yarn to tell or an ear to lend, get yourself down The Lantern on 9th June!
