Grassington Festival 2012 ‘Art and About’ in collaboration with Leeds Art Gallery’s picture lending collection
This month, Grassington Festival has launched an exciting new project in collaboration with Leeds Art Gallery. The project gives artists and poets an opportunity to create new and exciting work in response to the art gallery’s picture lending collection.
Leeds Art Gallery has a huge collection of artworks in storage – due to space restrictions in the gallery itself – so it offers them out on a ‘rental’ basis for a very small fee. Grassington Festival has secured a number of artworks for artists to borrow between March and May, in order to develop new works in response.
The original and new works will be used as part of an indoor and outdoor arts trail at Grassington Festival in June.
Grassington Festival is looking for artists who are interested in developing new work, collaborating with other artists, creating work for the outdoors, being part of a sculpture trail and responding to a theme or an artwork.
The picture lending collection project is an opportunity to artists who are looking for professional development, and some support when making new work. In this project we are offering a small grant, advice and support, and a range of both online and offline PR and promotional opportunities for participating artists.
