We want your mobile chargers for LSx Junior

Taking a photo

A couple of weeks ago we announced that tickets were available for LSx Junior, Leeds’ first family technology festival. The idea for an event for families which included things for children was first discussed two years ago while the LSx team were having dinner around my dining table .

We all got very excited about it and as we started to go round talking to people about our ideas it turned out lots of other people got very excited too. We’re been very lucky to have some amazing people offering to give up their time and resources for free to see what we could do together.

We’ve got a really big range of things to try, not a lot of it involves sitting in front of computer to be honest but all of it involves making and using technology in one form or another. Some of things we’ll be doing are making animations, mood lamps and pin hole cameras. We’re also taking kids on a photowalk and will be let them loose in a portrait studio. All of the activities are child + adult activities. We want it to be about the kids but we also want the grown ups to help so it’s about exploring and discovering together. And best of all it’s free.

But, we need a bit of help …

One of our sessions is about upcycling old mobile phone chargers so I’m here today asking for your help. We really need donations of old mobile phone chargers. You know all those old Ericsson and Nokia chargers which are cluttering up house – yeah? We want them. We’ve organised a number of drop points around the city, one at Round Foundry Media Centre, one at Old Broadcasting House and one at Munro House. The boxes to pop them in will be there from tomorrow, opening times for each place vary so it’s a good idea to check with them before arriving with your armfuls of chargers or tweet me on @monicatailor to check.

Let’s see how many old charger Leeds can dig out shall we?

More information about all the workshops can be found on http://lsx.co/junior where you can also book one of the nine remaining places.
