A Girl About Town

It has again been a couple of busy weeks for me out and about blogging and partying in Leeds, plus night shifts and a weekend away Morris Dancing in Norfolk. Here are the details…

I spent the afternoon with Mike (@nalsa) on the final leg of his ‘Cawfee Crawl’ a day visiting the various coffee shops of Leeds. It was an interesting and fun afternoon. Read about it in full here.

Saturday was a very busy day.  After enjoying a terribly civilised breakfast, on the balcony of a friends new apartment in the Candle House we ambled down to the Pannier Market, in Granary Wharf. There was a wonderful eclectic mix of arts and craft, vintage and foodie stalls.

I was really impressed by the number and variety of stalls there and the quality of the goods- some craft fairs end up with the same old stuff, but the Pannier Market seemed to have a really different feel to it. I picked up a fun pair of earrings made from little pieces of colouring pencils. Go and check it out- its held on the last Saturday of the month.

I made a quick stop at Clarence Dock to watch the annual dragon boat race. I was a bit disappointed by the turn out- not enough publicity I think! Nevertheless there seemed to be a good party atmosphere in the small crowd that was there and the competitors looked like they were having fun in their fancy dress costumes.

The afternoon was spent at the Underground Tea room run by ‘The Bakelady’ I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a different dining experience, wonderful food and loads of fun. The full review with photos is on Leeds Grub.

I made time in the week to nip up to the University of Leeds to take a look at ‘All Over the Place’ an art exhibition at the ‘Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery’ in the Parkinson building. A write up of it is here. The great thing about the SAB gallery is that it is quite small, so if you are a bit uncouth like me you can look round it and feel cultured without getting bored/ over civilised.

Staying with the arty theme, I attended the launch of a fab new photo exhibition at Salvos called Long Live the Kings. Read the full review here. It it was great little evening, free wine, canapés (I’m easily pleased) and a chance to chat to the artists ‘We the Collective’. I was really impressed by their enthusiasm and creativity. The exhibition is something really different and worth a look.

I ended the week by attending the VIP re-launch of the Living Room. My guest and I were treated to a free 3 course dinner. My original review of the place is here.  The menu has been completely updated and the venue has had a bit of a make over too. The food offerings include a number of classic dishes such as salads and steaks and some slightly more inventive ones too such as pan seared bison.

If you liked the Living Room before, you will love it now. Personally we felt that the food was all nice enough but it was probably a bit underwhelming for the price that was being charged. The atmosphere was however trendy and buzzing and the service from the staff was good (as it should have been on a VIP launch night!).

The night was rounded off with cocktails in one of my favourite bars Mojo, and then a bit of silly dancing in the Cockpit. Classy I know.

As always, if you have an event/party/launch etc and you want it featured here, drop us a line…
