Kids Holiday Activities at The National Media Museum

CinemaMagic

The National Media Museum have got stacks of activities for families on this Easter break. For those of you that don’t know, Leeds schools are end of term break from Monday for two weeks. Yes that’s well before the Easter weekend – I know!

Launching for Easter is CinemaMagic. The National Media Museum describes it as:

“Join us in this helter skelter tour of a hundred years and more of cinematic trickery. Unique, entertaining and informative! Learn about the wonders of pixilation, the traveling matte, the glass shot and the hilarious effects of climbing in and out of film.”

The description promises video footage, live performance and audience interaction. Certainly sounds magic and if it works it sounds like it’ll be well worth the £2 ticket price. It runs everyday throughout April and it will also run at weekends and school holidays after the April launch.

I’m planning to go along and see what it’s like so I’ll report back.

In addition to CinemaMagic there are some great sounding events going on throughout the Easter school holidays, just a few things that caught my eye are:

  • Pixilation Magic – free animation workshop on Saturday 16th April
  • Special Effects make up – learn how to apply cuts and scars, good prep for Halloween, also on Saturday 16th April
  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit – showing on Saturday and Sunday of Easter weekend and only £1 per person.
  • Lego Animation Workshop – £10 per child but only on Weds 20th and Thurs 21st (which falls outside of Leeds school holidays but within Bradford school holidays).

All of the events mentioned in this post (and more) are listed in the Families section of National Media Museum’s website.

And be sure to check times and make bookings where applicable via National Media Museum’s booking office. Take a look at their What’s On page times vary depending on the day.
