Okay, this is probably going to be more of an endorsement than a review but whatever, here goes –
ROBIN INCE’S ‘HAPPINESS THROUGH SCIENCE’ SHOW IS WELL GOOD, SO GO SEE IT!

What do you mean ‘no’? You need more convincing? Fine…

I’ve seen several Robin Ince shows now and his recent show at Leeds’ Northern Ballet (obvious choice of venue) saw him at his best. I think that’s because he has found the right balance between comedy and show & tell.

In his previous show ‘Bad Book Club’ much of the comedy was built around Ince reading from his collection of so-bad-they’re-brilliant books, purchased from the nation’s charity shops. Trust me, it was a lot funnier than Russell Brand reading the paper. With ‘Happiness Through Science’ much of the material is based around, you guessed it, science. More than that though it’s based around Ince’s love of science and it’s the passion he shows for the subject matter that makes this show so entertaining. You don’t have to be a ‘science geek’ or some sort of ‘nerd’ to enjoy it although I imagine some prior knowledge of all the old guys and theories he mentions (sorry, I should’ve taken notes) can only enhance your enjoyment. But if you don’t recognise any of them, fear not because Robin is on hand to not only entertain but educate; after a brief musing on the current double-dip I now understand Schröedinger’s cat thought experiment. Yay me!

There are still plenty of shows up North throughout May and June so if you fancy checking out ‘Happiness Through Science’ for yourself visit http://robinince.com/ for ticket details.

Oh, and one more thing to tempt you – had he been cast in The Wire his Baltimore accent would’ve seen the series cancelled before the end of the first season but his Prof. Brian Cox impression may or may not have made me wee a bit.
