This Friday (18th May) Leeds’ newly opened White Cloth Gallery will be screening Human Films’ SON OF BABYLON.

Son of Babylon is a 2009 feature film that tells the story of a young boy following his grandmother across Iraq as she searches for her son, Ahmed’s father, who never returned from war.

Developed through The Sundance Institute, the film was the official Iraqi entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards and was a big winner at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival. Released in the UK in 2011, The Guardian called it a ‘sensitive, stoical, compassionate’ film.

The film is directed by Mohamed Al-Daradji, a graduate of the Northern Film School and Variety’s Middle Eastern Filmmaker of the year 2010. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with several of the filmmakers.

The calibre of this film speaks for itself and teaming up White Cloth Gallery, Leeds’  ‘new hub of independent film and photography’, makes this an event not to be missed.
