Jobs and Opportunities: Events and Promotions at Leeds Markets

Leeds City Council City Centre & Markets Service requires assistance with the planning and delivery of its events, promotions and social media on a short term contract basis.

This is a new way of working for the Service which has previously employed full time staff to cover these functions.

Length of Contract

 The contract will be for 3 months and will ideally commence at the end of March 2013.  (No continuation or extension of the contract is offered or implied although this is a pilot which if successful may be implemented on a more permanent basis).

Specification

  1. Planning events and promotions at Kirkgate Market and in the city centre
  2. Promoting events and advertising promotions (multimedia & multichannel)
  3. Day to day Twitter and Facebook content for Markets and City Centre Management
  4. Liaison with third parties:
    1. Who wish to deliver events/promotions at the market or in city events spaces under CCM control;
    2. Where the markets are part of external events & promotions;
    3. Where the other party is also commissioned/tasked to deliver part of the events programme on behalf of the Service.
  5. Delivering planned events programme for Markets and City Centre Management, including elements already booked/planned throughout the period.
  6. Working to a standard and specification which is acceptable to Leeds City Council, including observation of protocols and the need for open and transparent methods of working and communication.
  7. Working within brand guidelines.
  8. Working with the Council’s Communications Team.

Reporting

The contractor will report directly to the Head of City Centre & Markets, or to a third party as directed by HoCCM.

Delivery

It is expected that the contractor will work flexibly to deliver the required outcomes, which may require evening/weekend work.  Although some elements of the commission could be done off site, face to face communication with traders and other stakeholders will be required in the planning, development and communication of the events programme, and clearly, delivery of events and promotions will require the contractor to be on site.

Additional information

A good understanding of retail marketing and promotions, and a strong network of contacts in the area will be a definite advantage to the contractor in delivering the required outcomes.  Familiarity with the offer at Leeds Kirkgate Market is desirable but not obligatory.  Social media is increasingly important to us and will require fairly intensive attention on a daily basis.
