Unfortunately this event clashes with The Northern Art Prize announcement, which I really wanted to attend.  I would like to invite people who are attending the Northern Art Prize over to Catch-Up after the event – for some Live music, nice vibes and cheap booze. We may stay open a wee bit later to accommodate people wanting to attend on the evening – if they can leave a comment below to let us know.

Catch Up no.2
Jay Cover & Hugh Frost

Me (Jay Cover)

I’m one part of design collective Nous Vous, who work on commercial projects mainly for cultural institutions, recently finishing work for the Tate Modern, The Northern Art Prize & ICA (Institute Of Contemporary Art). I’ve been in Leeds living / working for 7 years. I work commercially as an illustrator and designer, working on a broad range of projects from installation to editorial illustration, generally with a visual bent. Alongside my commercial practice, I enjoy curating shows and initiate projects. Last summer I Directed and Curated ‘Loop Arts Fair’, working with Laura Wellington (Duke Studios) and Neil Owen (TestSpace). I exhibit as an artist as regularly as possible. In an ideal world I’d like to afford more time to pursuing an artistic practice, developing ideas and sharpening my craft. My main pursuit at the moment is image-making, I’m interested in the power of imagery to represent something and image-making that instead of simply referencing said ‘something’ – interprets it and has the ability to communicate on it’s own terms.

HUGH-10HUGH-2

Hugh Frost

It’s hard to know where to start when talking about Hugh. I don’t say this often (mainly because it sounds naff), but he is intensely creative, he has a rare ability to keep himself excited about every project he works on, resulting in him being not only very prolific, but someone who seems genuinely pleased to be snowed under a massive workload. The same can rarely be said of me. Hugh’s creative endeavors manifest in many different forms, all equally accomplished and interesting. He had a successful stint as a musician under the moniker ‘Sportsday Megaphone’, he runs a publishing company called ‘Landfill Editions’, and a printing service called ‘ManyMono’. This is all alongside his personal image-making and design practice. Hugh is based in London, working from OPEN – a studio he co-founded alongside a few peers for independent designers, illustrators, creatives.

Hugh and me go way back… well that’s how it feels, we’ve only actually known each other for a couple of years. We met at the first Pick Me Up, a contemporary Graphic Art Fair at Somerset House (London, 2010), where we were both participating as artists.
