This Thursday, the 16th October, Selina Thompson’s ‘Chewing the Fat’ comes to Stage@Leeds; Emily Shaw previews …

Championed by the West Yorkshire Playhouse, York Theatre Royal and National Theatre Studio, the young Leeds-based artist Selina Thompson is bringing her show – which was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year – to Leeds for the night.

‘Chewing the Fat’ is set to be ‘a midnight feast like no other’, with KitKats, glitter and a rice pudding piñata all promising to make an appearance.

Part theatre, part stand up performance that is likely to be as open and powerful as it is entertaining, Selina wants the show to be an honest discussion around the pressure placed on body positivity recently by the Government and NHS. With weight becoming such a contentious and debated issue it seems the perfect time to be producing such a show.

Selina has said that “honest conversations about our bodies are so loaded, and difficult to have”, which is why she created the show. She says that there is “a truth about being fat that body positivity [isn’t] covering”, and I’m sure we can expect this issue and others to be raised and questioned in a humorous way in the performance.

It sounds like the performance is going to be highly funny and unique, so if you want to find out more information or book tickets, head over to Stage@Leeds
