Job Description – Events & Sales Manager

The Leeds 14 Trust is an emerging social enterprise with a focus on the economic, social and environmental regeneration of Seacroft and the surrounding LS14 postcode area. Our aim is to encourage, nurture and give expression to the enterprise, creativity and spirit of our local community in order to see its potential fulfilled. Constituted in early 2009, The LS14 Trust has recently been awarded a grant from Jimbo’s Social Enterprise Fund to set up and run a social enterprise event hire and training company.

Responsible to: Development Manager

Purpose of Job: To drive forward the development of a social enterprise event hire & training company.

This is a new role in a fast developing organisation; the scope and responsibilities of the post will inevitably change during the contract period, as will the balance of responsibility between the worker & development manager.

Prime Objectives of the Post

  1. To maximize external income opportunities for the enterprise by developing sound proposals for projects to attract new business.
  2. Support the setting up and running of the event hire company
  3. Be responsible for the creation and implementation of the day to day running of all sales & marketing in relation to the event hire enterprise.
  4. To assist in developing a sustainable social enterprise
  5. To support the Development Manager in the preparation and development of the company’s forward plan which clearly sets out its short and medium term priorities for the business.

Range of Duties

  1. To provide a first point of contact for the enterprise via email, telephone and in person.
  2. To secure inward income investment to support and promote the enterprise ensuring long term sustainability.
  3. To maintain a company database of clients, members, projects, proposals, consultants, funders, and partners. Compliance with data protection requirements.
  4. To represent the company at meetings and to develop positive relationships with potential partners
  5. To prepare and present reports relating to all matters of work to board members
  6. To demonstrate awareness and understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behavioral, physical, cultural and welfare needs.
  7. Responsible for the booking, administration and liaison with staff and volunteers
  8. To ensure that reasonably practicable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and other persons, and to comply with policies and procedures relating to health and safety.

Outline Conditions

In the first instance the post will be offered on a 12 month freelance contract at a set daily rate of £120 per day @ 2 days per week- 72 hours per month. A flexi-time recording system will be operated to keep track of the hours worked.

Details of the normal hours of work will be agreed with the successful applicant, but the Board is keen that the person appointed should work as flexibly as possible in order to be able to respond to demands and opportunities. One aspect of this will be the ability to attend evening meetings and weekends as required.

The post-holder will be required to be self-servicing, although appropriate supervision will be arranged with the successful applicant. The post holder will receive advice from, and will report to the Development Manager . Essential equipment will be provided by the Trust; the post-holder will be expected to make maximum use of IT in all areas of their work. Experience in using Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel and Outlook would be valuable
