Grassington Festival welcomes our very own Yorkshireman of the Year

Do you fancy finding out first hand what it feels like to win not just one, but two, gold medals at the Olympic Games?

Grassington Festival is delighted to welcome Andrew Triggs Hodge, recently crowned Yorkshireman of the Year at the Dalesman Awards 2013 and winner of two gold Olympic medals in rowing. Andrew is taking time out of his busy schedule to come to Grassington for one day and one day only to speak about his amazing experiences and to inspire us with his tales of sporting success.

Andrew says “My heritage in rowing is in the grass roots of a very small boat club at Staffordshire University. My motivation to lose fat turned into an idea that I could do better and the rest is history.”

Andrew will be joining us straight from presenting an inspirational workshop at Upper Wharfedale, his former school, when he will be talking with students about how he achieved such an amazing success at last year’s Olympic Games. In particular Andrew will encourage and inspire students to follow their dreams and their chosen path and to believe in themselves. He will be joined at the workshop by Tim Spackman (Head of Organisational Development in the Human Resources team at Skipton Building Society, who are supporting Andrew’s visit to Yorkshire) and by Helena Horsburgh, a student from St Catherine’s, Oxford, Andrew’s former college.

Andrew’s talk at Grassington Festival will be held on Monday 24th June at the Town Hall in Grassington at 7pm. The evening will be chaired by Ian Douglass, well known as a long serving Deputy Head at Ermysted’s Grammar School, Skipton and for his flamboyant announcements at Upper Wharfedale Rugby Club. They will be joined by Dales sportsman and champion fell-runner, Ted Mason during the second half for a panel discussion.

Andrew is a bred Yorkshireman, brought up in Hebden – be sure to take a trip to see his golden post box in the village – and come along to hear all about his amazing experiences and to be inspired!
