Launch of Urban Sprawl’s ‘Filth’ tonight at 7Arts

aaFILTH-1-1
Tonight sees the launch of the new show, ‘Filth’, from Urban Sprawl, Yorkshire’s only homeless theatre company. From 8pm tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday), ‘Filth’ fills the stage at 7Arts in Chapel Allerton, Leeds.

This hugely topical dark comedy goes direct for the jugular, delving into the amoral greed, decadence and obsessions of the filthy rich. As British society edges closer and closer towards corporate feudalism, business magnates pick over the smorgasbord of the public sector.  The forests, libraries, hospitals, prisons, even Her Majesty’s subjects, have become little more than treasure to be looted by an increasingly rapacious business class. One such is Lady Muck, someone so profoundly rich (and unlikeable) that all those around her cower in fear, as she seeks to privatise the very air that we breathe.

This morality tale/pantomime hybrid takes a sharp look at a world frighteningly like our own, whilst measuring the devastating impact economic and political manoeuvring have on society’s vulnerable citizens.

Urban Sprawl is Yorkshire’s pioneer arts engagement organisation working with people whose lives have been turned inside out, literally.  They use drama to help approach and deal with homelessness.  We also use comedy, and music, and satire, and dance and poetry.
